DE: Ian Scott, was war Ihre Motivation, Gruvtowl zu gründen?
Ich habe Gruvtowl + GRUVBRUSH gegründet, um das Reinigen meiner Golfschläger während der Runde am Golfplatz zu vereinfachen. Überladene Golfbags mit extra angehängten, flatternden Schlägerbürsten gefallen mir nicht, weil sie so unordentlich aussehen! Und zusätzlich habe ich beim Spielen oft kalte Hände und finde diese winzigen Bürstchen, die in eine Hosen- oder Jackentasche passen, unhandlich und unbequem. Außerdem habe ich oft gar keine Taschen am Golfplatz dabei. Jedes Mal, wenn ich neue Schläger gekauft habe, war ich auch besorgt, dass die Oberflächen der Schlägerköpfe zerkratzt werden könnten. Also beschloss ich, eine Lösung dafür zu kreieren, da im Handel nichts Passendes zu finden war. Eine Bürste an das Golf Handtuch zu befestigen schien mir das Naheliegendste, doch die Herausforderung bestand darin, eine Bürste zu entwickeln, deren Borsten einerseits hart genug sind, um gut zu reinigen, gleichzeitig aber so weich, um nichts zu zerkratzen. Zusätzlich war mir wichtig, dass ich sie einfach in die Waschmaschine stecken konnte. Das Ergebnis: Gruvtowl +GRUVBRUSH.
DE: Gruvtowl +GRUVBRUSH werden umweltfreundlich in Europa und in Zusammenarbeit mit einer Werkstatt für Menschen mit Behinderung hergestellt?
Ein bedeutender Aspekt in der Entwicklung von Gruvtowl +GRUVBRUSH war die Unterstützung lokaler Produzenten und eine möglichst umweltschonede Herstellung. Die Mikrofastertücher aus Waffelpiqués selbst konnte ich leider nicht in Europa lokalisieren und wurden daher international in einer Schiffsfracht importiert. Die Bürsten werden von einem lokalen, englischen Unternehmen, River Manufacturing, hergestellt und von einer Werkstatt für Menschen mit Behinderung, Devon Disability Collective, auf die Tücher genäht. Individuell angefertigte Stickereien wiederum organisiert eine lokale Firma, RGL Promotions, die 5 km von meinem Büro entfernt liegt.
DE: Welchen Einfluss haben saubere Grooves auf das Golfspiel?
Die Bedeutung sauberer Grooves wird oft übersehen. Durch Matsch oder Sandkörnern verstopfte Rillen reduzieren die Leistungsfähigkeit jedes noch so teuren Golfschlägers. Fest haftende Verschmutzungen verhindern sauberen Ballkontakt und verringern den Spin. Die scharfen Kanten der Grooves verursachen Reibung, um Spin zu kreieren, und ermöglichen Ihnen so Kontrolle und Exaktheit im Spiel.
Eines der Ergebnisse einer von R&A + USGA 2007 herausgegebenen Studie, die u-förmige, v-förmige und keine Grooves verglich, war, dass Veränderung der Grooveform den Spin beeinflusst. Tiefe und Weite der Grooves zu verringern bedeutete Spin zu vermindern – verschmutzte Grooves funktionieren also nicht!
DE: Sie engagieren sich auch für Golfturniere und Charities?
Gruvtowl Golf unterstützt auch junge Golftalente und verfügt schon über eine Anzahl von Golf-Ambassadors, die ihre Golfkarriere starten. Golf kann ein teurer Sport sein und indem wir sie mit Equipment unterstützen, können wir zu ihrem beruflichen Erfolg beitragen. Gruvtowl engagiert sich auch für die Clutch Pro Tour und viele von Golffreunden organisierte Charities, um deren persönliche Anliegen zu unterstützen.
EN: What was your motivation to found Gruvtowl?
I developed Gruvtowl +GRUVBRUSH to simplify cleaning my golf clubs on the course. I do not like a cluttered bag and do not enjoy carrying a groove cleaner attached to my bag that swings about and looks untidy! Plus, often playing with cold hands the small brushes that fit in a pocket I find too fiddly and often don’t have a pocket when I play anyway! In addition, having purchased new clubs, I was concerned not to scratch the new faces. So, I decided to design a solution as nothing currently existed . A brush attached to the golf towel seemed obvious but the challenge was to design one that was strong yet with bristles soft enough to clean effectively. It was also important that it could happily go through a washing machine. The result Gruvtowl +GRUVBRUSH.
EN: Kindly let us have a few information on European origin and the cooperation with the Devon Disability Collective of Gruvtowl.
An important aspect of the development was to support local and have a minimal impact on the environment. The microfibre towels could not be sourced in Europe so one shipment by sea was organised. The brushes are manufactured by a local UK company, River Manufacturing and sewn on to the towels by a UK Social Enterprise company, Devon Disability Collective, who employ people with disabilities and those furthest from the labour market. Embroidery for personalisation is by another local company, RGL Promotions, who are located within 5km of the office.
EN: Why are clean Grooves important for a good score?
The importance of clean grooves is often overlooked. Clogged grooves with mud or grains of sand will reduce the effectiveness of any golf club however expensive. Impacted dirt reduces spin and causes grooved decay. The sharp edges of the grooves create friction to generate spin and in turn gives control and accuracy in your golf game.
One of the findings in a study by the R&A + USGA in 2007 comparing u-shaped, V shaped + no grooves found that changing the shape of the grooves does effect spin. Decreasing the depth and width of the grooves decrease spin -so clogged grooves do not work!
EN: Do you support any tournaments or charities?
Gruvtowl Golf also support young talent in golf and have a number of ambassadors who are starting their golf journey. Golf can be an expensive sport so supporting them with equipment assists them in their professional growth.
Gruvtowl also supports the Clutch Pro tour and many charities by fellow golfers who take the time to organise a golf day to support the cause close to their heart.
